Protecting the Environment
With the help of an outside consulting firm, we developed a company-wide program of environmental awareness and sustainability. The pillars of that program include:
Equipment and materials. New and efficient technologies reduce or eliminate the need for hazardous chemicals in our manufacturing operations.
|
Energy and Conservation. We continually look for ways to reduce energy, conserve natural resources, and recycle or eliminate waste both in our printing workflow and within our administrative infrastructure. |
Customers expect green. Our customers expect to do business with a green commercial printer. Customers themselves manage their operation to be compliant with environmental and OSHA rules. They also view their achievements as good business decisions and typically want to see their green views reflected in their suppliers, vendors and in their professional commercial printer.
Panaprint's Environmental Policies and Principles.
It is Panaprint’s policy to be environmentally responsible in all activities. It’s good business practice and it is the right thing to do. This means operating under the following principles:
Minimize our carbon footprint across all segments of our organization.
|
Meet and, when possible, exceed all governmental rules and regulations concerning our environmental impact. |
Use sustainable or responsibly sourced products in our printing.
|
Include environmental impact in our performance standards.
|
Evaluate environmental performance periodically to ensure continuous improvement.
|
Panaprint recycles wastepaper and trimmings, aluminum printing plates, corrugated board, cardboard cores, fluorescent light bulbs and spent lubricating oil. |
Participation in The Green Award Program. This program is administrated by an outside consultant who regularly examines our facility to insure we are compliant with government and industry regulations in multiple areas. These areas include: air emissions, waste generation, chemical storage, usage and disposal, pollution prevention, recycling and employee safety. |
Panaprint uses soy based inks whenever possible in an effort to reduce pollutants being released into the air. Soy ink produces less volatile organic compounds (VOC) so they make for a safer, cleaner working environment for our employees and our community. Soy inks also reduce the time and energy needed to recycle paper which helps to reduce our overall carbon footprint. |
Waste minimization. Panaprint’s printing ink is contained in stationary indoor tanks and piped directly to our printing presses. This reduces the possibilities for spills. We also use cleaning solvents that are piped to presses in a process called automatic blanket washing. These technologies reduce handling, efficiently manage chemical usage and minimize waste.
|
Plant-wide recycling. Panaprint recycles wastepaper and trimmings, aluminum printing plates, corrugated board, cardboard cores, fluorescent, light bulbs and spent lubricating oil.
|
An emergency management committee which maintains a current environmental emergency crisis plan.
|
Panaprint works only with environmentally responsible paper mills, and uses soy based inks whenever possible in an effort to reduce pollutants being released into the air. |
Recently, Panaprint has gotten a new paper balers in our plant. Balers are ideal for paper recycling and help to conserve natural resources, save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lower landfill use.
Adequate manufacturing space. Consideration was given to adequate storage and manufacturing space when we moved to our new facility. This allows us to space equipment and raw materials so that employees can safely move around the plant. The results are efficiency of motion, excellent housekeeping, minimizing the potential for spills and releases as well as providing a safer and healthier workplace for our employees.
